Motivation

By: Kristin O'Connor

For each of us, the motivation to get in gear and start/continue working out is different. For me all I need is to see the sun! I want to go outside and play all day... throw the football with my brother, go for a long walk, play volleyball (yes, I love it even though I am 5'1"!), do some outdoor yoga, swim, kayak, etc., etc. The point is, we have to WANT to get out there and exercise or else just like dieting it will never become part of your lifestyle.

I thought I would start a list of exercises on Nourish This that you can help me add to in an effort to show people that getting fit does not have to mean running on a treadmill every day! (although, yes, that should be one of our exercise options!) I am also going to do my best to show you approximately how many calories can be burned through certain activities, although it is important to take into account these are only averages and that weight and speed/resistance also plays a part in how much you will burn as an individual. So here ya go!

(The approximate calorie counts per exercise were obtained from the American Cancer Society: www.cancer.org)
